Real Estate Tax Manager, Senior Manager, or Director - Midtown - New York City

Summary of Responsibilities:

Prestigious Top 15 single-office CPA firm is seeking strong real estate tax manager or higher to assist real estate partners in researching issues and formulating tax strategies for entities and individuals involved in complex real estate transactions. Candidates should have experience working with sophisticated clients, including CEOs of multibillion-dollar real estate developers. This position includes assisting in examinations by IRS and state tax agencies involving issues characteristic of clients in this practice segment.

Position Duties:

  • Oversee the efficient, accurate and timely review of various clients’ tax returns including individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns and multi-state returns
  • Consultation with outside tax professionals and audit staff
  • Begin and complete tax research projects, including the ability to present findings in a clear, concise, understandable written form
  • Oversee technical tax reviews of 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041l tax returns
  • Act as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and audit staff on specific tax issues and/or questions
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients
  • Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate
  • Possess computer skills, including the ability to work with RIA, BNA, CCH, and GoSystem Tax

Required Competencies:

  • Demonstrates technical knowledge and skill at a high level of accomplishment
  • Identifies specific tax strategies for tax planning purposes
  • Applies complex tax concepts to tax compliance issues and review of complex individual and corporate tax returns (either business, S Corp, C Corp, Individual or Trusts) including analyzing information and tracking complex book/tax differences
  • Expert in issues related to real estate transactions – 1031, 704b and c, 743b, 754
  • Effectively supervises staff and seniors, supervisors, and senior managers
  • Collaborates with blue ribbon tax counsel via teleconference and face-to-face meetings
  • Able to work effectively with IRS and state tax examination personnel
  • Skilled in problem solving; evaluates possible solutions
  • Skilled in organizing people, projects, deadlines and work appropriately
  • Knowledge of Sub-S issues, including tax on excess net passive net passive income, built-in gains, and various QSSSs, QSSTs, and grantor trusts as shareholders (a plus)
  • Knowledge of fiduciary income tax and wealth transfer taxation (a plus)

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in accounting as well as a CPA certification
  • 7+ years experience working in tax with a concentration in partnerships, private developers and investment companies
  • Excellent project management, presentation, and client interaction skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Dedication to teamwork, leadership, and integrity within a professional environment

Salary: Market and experience with a range from 180,000 to 200,000 plus bonus and benefits.
